Father/daughter photographs and artwork on display at Brown Library in January (Jan. 12, 2005) Photographs by Ric Carter and artwork by his daughter Emily Carter are on exhibit at Brown Library through the end of January. Also on display is artwork by children in Home Schools of Washington and a showcase display by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Ric Carter is the editor of The North Carolina Mason. He was the photo department at the Washington Daily News for more than 17 years. Born and reared in Gates County, on the western edge of the Great Dismal Swamp, Carter always has had an affinity for the wetlands of the east. He has produced a number of photographic shows around the state including previous Beaufort County shows at the Beaufort County Arts Council, Brown Library, and the North Carolina Estuarium. Since leaving the Daily News, his style has become less journalistic and more oriented to fine art prints of Tarheel landscapes. The images in this show are all from the last two years. Joining her father in displaying her artistic talent is Emily Carter. Emily is the daughter of Ric and Kitty Carter and granddaughter of W. C. and Joy Rodman of Washington. She attended Washington City Schools before moving to Garner with the family. Emily, 16 years old, is junior class president at South Johnston High School in Four Oaks. She plays softball and varsity basketball there. She enjoys creating art in several media, including sculpture and mixed media. This show, her first public showing, will consist mostly of water colors. She is new to the form, but likes its speedy work style. Each month Brown Library features the works of area artists and collectors. Those interested in scheduling an exhibit may contact Carol Newman at the library at 252-946-4300. Brown Library is a department
of the City of Washington. Regular hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-9
p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Sunday, closed.
