City invites residents to Chunk Your Junk August 9-12 (July 29, 2005) The City of Washington invites residents to Chunk Your Junk August 9-12. The Public Works Department will be picking up bulky trash items from residences at no charge on neighborhood solid waste service days during that period. Bulky trash items, such as discarded furniture or appliances, are too large to fit in the garbage cart. Items should be placed in the yard next to the street for collection. Residents are asked not to put bulky trash items out prior to the free collection week. There is a limit of one truckload collected per residence at no charge. The city does not collect any of the following items: construction materials, tires, hazardous materials, or appliances that contain or did contain Freon. The city provides bulky trash collection at no charge once a quarter on the second full weeks of February, May, August and November. The next free pick-up period will be Nov. 15-18. At other times of the year,
residents and property owners can dispose of bulky trash items at no charge
at any Beaufort County Solid Waste Convenience Center, arrange for private
haulers to carry items away, or request the city to pick up bulky items
for a charge of $50 per trip. For more information call the citys
Public Works Department at 252-975-9302. |
